Eastertide Day 9 Monday April 28 2025

John 3: 1-8 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

During Eastertide, we are reminded of the new life that Christ brings through His resurrection. In John 3:1-8, Jesus speaks to Nicodemus about being “born again” or “born from above.” This passage challenges us to reflect on the transformative power of the Spirit in our lives. Just as Jesus invites Nicodemus to move beyond earthly understanding and embrace the mysteries of God’s kingdom, so too are we called to trust the Spirit’s work in us.

The resurrection of Jesus is the ultimate act of renewal, and through it, we are invited to experience a spiritual rebirth. This rebirth is not based on our own efforts but is a gift of grace, a work of the Spirit that renews our hearts and minds. The wind blows where it wills, and though we cannot see it, we feel its effects. In the same way, the Spirit moves in our lives, guiding us closer to God and transforming us into people of hope, love, and faith.

As we journey through Eastertide, let us open our hearts to the Spirit’s renewing power, trusting that the same God who raised Jesus from the dead is at work in us, bringing us into the fullness of life.

Prayer: Gracious God, we thank You for the gift of new life through Your Son, Jesus Christ. As we journey through this season of Eastertide, remind us of the power of Your Spirit at work within us. Help us to embrace the mystery of being born again, renewed in faith and transformed by Your love. Teach us to walk in the light of Your resurrection, sharing Your hope with the world. May we trust in the Spirit’s guidance, even when we cannot see the full picture.

In the name of the risen Christ, we pray. Amen.
