Eastertide Day 38 Tuesday May 27 2025

John 16: 5-11 “But now I am going to him who sent me. None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ Rather, you are filled with grief because I have said these things. But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

In this passage, Jesus prepares His disciples for His departure, acknowledging the sorrow they will feel but assuring them of the coming Advocate, the Spirit of Truth. He speaks of the Spirit’s role in guiding them into all truth, convicting the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment. This moment is a profound reminder during Eastertide that Jesus’ resurrection is not the end but the beginning of a new way of living empowered by the Holy Spirit.

As we reflect on these verses, we are invited to embrace the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Though we may face challenges and moments of sorrow, we are not left alone. The Spirit comforts, teaches, and strengthens us to live in the light of Christ’s victory over sin and death. This passage calls us to trust in the Spirit’s guidance and to allow ourselves to be transformed by God’s truth.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, You are the Advocate Jesus promised, the Spirit of Truth who leads us into all understanding.
In times of uncertainty and sorrow, be our comfort and our guide.
Help us to recognize Your presence in our lives and to open our hearts to Your transforming power.
Convict us where we fall short, strengthen us to live righteously, and remind us of the hope we have in Christ.
May we walk boldly in the new life that Easter brings, filled with peace and joy.
Amen.
