Day 8 of Lent Thursday Feburary 26th 2026

Scripture

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”1 Peter 5:6-7

Reflection

Relinquishing control is often painted as an act of “giving up,” but 1 Peter reveals it is actually an act of leveling up. Think about the sheer energy it takes to hold it all together—the constant mental tabs open, the “what-ifs,” and the heavy pressure to ensure everyone around you is okay. When we try to play God, we end up exhausted because we weren’t built for that kind of weight. Humbling ourselves isn’t about thinking poorly of ourselves; it’s about accurately assessing our strength compared to His.

Today is about the “Great Exchange.” You take that jagged, heavy ball of anxiety and you cast it. In the original language, that word “cast” implies a deliberate, forceful throw—like a fisherman throwing a heavy net or a traveler tossing a heavy pack onto a sturdy cart. You aren’t just dropping it; you are placing it into the “mighty hand” of Someone who is actually strong enough to handle it. You don’t have to be the hero of your story today; you just have to be the child of a Father who cares for you.

Prayer

Lord, today I am done trying to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders. I recognize that Your hands are “mighty” and mine are small. I am making the choice to throw my worries, my fears, and my need for certainty onto You. Thank You that I don’t have to earn Your care—I already have it. I step into this day with lighter shoulders, trusting that You will lift me up in Your perfect timing. Amen.
