Day 28

Day 28 of Lent Saturday March 21st

Scripture

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”Matthew 11:28-29

Reflection

On this 28th day, we reach the weekend of our fifth week. After a long week of professional responsibilities and personal disciplines, the “weariness” mentioned in this scripture might feel very familiar. But notice that Jesus doesn’t offer a rest that is just “doing nothing.” He offers a yoke.

In the ancient world, a yoke was used to pair two oxen together so they could pull a load with shared strength. The Strength of Devotion is the realization that you aren’t pulling the plow alone. When you are devoted to Him, you are yoked to Him. His strength handles the heavy lifting, and your job is simply to stay in step with Him. This is an incredibly upbeat promise for a Saturday: you can find “rest for your soul” even while you are moving forward. Whether you are catching up on household tasks, enjoying your dog’s company, or preparing for the week ahead, you can do it with a light heart because the weight isn’t all on you.

Prayer

Lord, I thank You for the rest You provide. On this 28th day, I come to You with my burdens and my weariness, and I trade them for Your peace. Help me to stay “yoked” to You today—learning from Your gentleness and relying on Your strength. Thank You that my devotion leads to a rested soul and a renewed spirit. I am ready for the weekend, knowing You are walking right beside me. Amen.
