Day 21 of Lent Friday March 28th 2025

John 13: 4-5 So he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

Galations: 5: 13-14 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.

Philippians 2: 3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

James 4: 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Day 21 of Lent – Being Humble

Humility is not about thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. It is the quiet strength of placing others’ needs before your own, not out of obligation, but out of love and a desire to serve. Jesus exemplified ultimate humility when He came to serve rather than be served, even to the point of laying down His life for us. In a world that often rewards self-promotion, humility calls us to a countercultural way of living that mirrors the heart of Christ.

Take some time today to reflect on areas in your life where pride may have taken root. Are there moments where you’ve sought recognition for your acts of kindness? Are there relationships where you’ve struggled to prioritize the needs of others? Ask God to help you embrace humility, not as a weakness, but as a reflection of His grace and love working through you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the perfect example of humility found in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Teach me to walk in His footsteps, putting aside selfish ambition and pride. Give me the grace to value others above myself and to serve with a heart full of love and compassion. Help me to see the beauty in humility and to trust in Your plan, even when I’m tempted to seek my own way. May my life reflect Your glory and draw others closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
