On this 24th day of Lent, we are shifting our energy. Discipline isn’t just about what we push out of our lives; it’s about what we intentionally pull in. It is easy to let our minds drift toward the stress of the week or the things that aren’t going right, but today is an invitation to perform a “mental audit.”
Think of your mind like a garden. If you focus on the weeds, that’s all you’ll see. But if you intentionally look for what is “excellent and praiseworthy,” the entire landscape of your day changes. This isn’t about ignoring reality; it’s about choosing which part of reality gets your attention. Whether you are in the middle of a busy shift or enjoying a quiet day at home, look for the “lovely” things—a moment of humor, a job well done, or the beauty of the spring air. When we change what we focus on, we change how we feel. Let’s finish this 24th day with an upbeat spirit and an eye for the good.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the beauty and the excellence that surround me, even in the middle of a busy week. On this 24th day of our journey, help me to catch my negative thoughts and replace them with things that are pure and lovely. Grant me a sharp eye for the “praiseworthy” moments today. Fill my mind with Your light so that I can be a source of encouragement to everyone I meet. Amen. the strength to take up our cross with a willing heart. Forgive us for the times we have tried to follow You on our own terms. As we honor the spirit of St. Patrick, help us to bind ourselves so closely to Your presence that our words, our actions, and our thoughts reflect Your light. Steady our feet for the road ahead and keep our eyes fixed on the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.
