Day 20 of Lent Thursday March 12th

Scripture
“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” — James 1:19
Reflection
Humility is often found in the space between our words. On a long journey, it is easy to spend our time complaining about the weather, the terrain, or the pace. But the humble traveler knows that you cannot hear the directions if you are the one doing all the talking.
Being “quick to listen” is a discipline of the heart. It requires us to set aside our agendas, our defenses, and our need to be right. Today, as you move through your day, look for opportunities to be the last one to speak. Practice a humble silence in your conversations and in your prayers. When we quiet the noise of our own egos, we create the necessary room for God’s still, small voice to guide our next steps.
Prayer
Lord, help me to be quick to listen and slow to speak today. Give me a humble heart that values the wisdom of others and the promptings of Your Spirit more than my own opinions. In the quiet moments of this day, speak to me, and give me the grace to hear You. Amen.
