Day 6 of Lent, Tuesday Feburary 24th

Scripture

“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”1 Samuel 3:9

Reflection

We often treat prayer like a monologue—a list of requests, worries, and “thank yous” that we broadcast toward heaven. But the deepest part of solitude is the shift from speaking to listening. Like young Samuel in the temple, we have to learn the posture of a listener.

Listening to God rarely involves an audible voice. It’s more like an alignment. When we are quiet, we begin to notice the nudges of the Holy Spirit, the conviction of a truth we’ve been avoiding, or the sudden sense of peace regarding a difficult decision. Today, as you wrap up this week of silence, try a new way of praying: Don’t say a word. Just sit with the phrase, “Speak, Lord, I’m listening,” and see what rises to the surface of your heart.

Prayer

Father, I admit that I do most of the talking in our relationship. Today, I want to practice the art of listening. I am quiet, I am still, and I am open. Soften my heart to hear Your direction, Your comfort, and Your truth. Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening. Amen.
