Eastertide Day 35 Saturday May 24 2025
John 15: 18-21 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[b] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.

In this passage, Jesus prepares His disciples for the reality of the world’s rejection. He reminds them that just as the world hated Him, it will also hate those who follow Him. This teaching, set in the context of Eastertide, calls us to reflect on the cost of discipleship and the strength found in Christ’s victory over death.
During Eastertide, we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, a triumph that brings hope and new life. Yet, this victory does not mean the path ahead will be free from trials or opposition. The world may reject our faith and values, but we are called to remain steadfast, knowing that Jesus has overcome the world.
This passage encourages us to embrace the reality of being different in a world that often resists the message of love and truth. It is a reminder that our identity in Christ is secure, not because the world accepts us, but because Jesus has promised His presence and ultimate victory.
As we journey through Eastertide, let us renew our courage to witness to the resurrection in our words and actions, confident that Jesus’ love sustains us even in times of rejection.
Prayer: Risen Lord, You have overcome the world and given us new life in Your resurrection. Strengthen our hearts when we face rejection or hardship for Your name’s sake. Help us to remain faithful witnesses of Your love and truth in all circumstances. May Your victory encourage us to persevere, knowing that You are always with us. Fill us with Your peace and courage as we live out our faith in this Easter season and beyond.
Amen.
