Eastertide Day 32 Wednesday May 21 2025
John 15: 1-8 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

In this passage, Jesus reminds us that He is the true vine, and we are the branches. As we continue to celebrate the resurrection during Eastertide, we are invited to reflect on the new life that flows from our connection to Christ. Just as branches cannot bear fruit unless they remain attached to the vine, we too cannot bear the fruits of love, joy, peace, and faithfulness unless we remain united with Jesus.
Easter is a season of renewal and hope. It calls us to prune away what hinders our spiritual growth and to open ourselves more fully to the life-giving presence of the risen Lord. This passage challenges us to examine the ways we may have become disconnected from Jesus and encourages us to deepen our relationship with Him through prayer, service, and obedience.
As we abide in Christ, we experience His love in profound ways, which empowers us to live as witnesses of His resurrection. Bearing fruit in our lives is a sign of God’s glory and a source of great joy, not only for ourselves but for those around us.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are the true vine, and we are the branches.
Help us to remain deeply connected to You, so that we may bear the fruit that brings glory to God.
During this Eastertide, renew our hearts with the power of Your resurrection.
Prune away anything that hinders our growth and fill us with Your Spirit,
so that our lives may overflow with love, joy, peace, and faithfulness.
May we be witnesses to Your life and light in the world,
sharing the hope and grace that come from abiding in You.
Amen.
