Eastertide Day 14 Saturday May 3 2025

John 14: 5-14 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

In this passage, Thomas asks Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus responds with the profound declaration, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This statement invites us to place our trust in Jesus as the sole guide to eternal life and as the visible image of the invisible God.

Philip then asks to see the Father, and Jesus reminds him that anyone who has seen Him has seen the Father. This reminder calls us to recognize that in Jesus, we experience the fullness of God’s love, grace, and truth. Jesus also emphasizes the power of faith, assuring His followers that they will do even greater works through belief in Him.

As we reflect during Eastertide, this passage challenges us to deepen our trust in Christ’s guidance and to live out our faith through action. Jesus calls us to believe not only in His words but also in the transformative power of His works, which are made manifest in our lives through prayer and faith.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life. Help us to trust in You more deeply, especially when the path ahead seems unclear. Open our hearts to know that in You, we encounter the fullness of the Father’s love. Strengthen our faith so that we may reflect Your light in our actions and share Your truth with others. May we always seek You in prayer, trusting that You hear us and will provide according to Your will. Empower us to do the works You have called us to, for Your glory and the good of others. Amen.
