Eastertide Day 12 Thursday May 1 2025

John 3: 31-36 The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. 33 Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. 34 For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.

In today’s Gospel passage, we are reminded of the supremacy of Christ. “The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all” (John 3:31). Jesus, the one who comes from above, speaks with divine authority, drawing us into the truth of God’s eternal plan.

This passage challenges us to reflect on the source of our beliefs and where we place our trust. Do we rely on earthly wisdom or look to the One who is above all, whose words are spirit and life? Jesus testifies to what He has seen and heard from the Father, offering us the gift of eternal life. Yet, the passage also acknowledges that not everyone accepts His testimony.

“The one who believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them” (John 3:36). This verse is both a promise and a warning—a call to faith and surrender to Christ. Eastertide is a season to renew our commitment to the risen Lord, to embrace His testimony, and to live fully in the grace of His resurrection.

Today, let us ask ourselves: Are we listening to Christ’s voice, or are we distracted by the noise of the world? May we open our hearts to the one who is above all, trusting in His words and living in the light of His truth. As we continue our Easter journey, let us rejoice in the eternal life He offers and share His message of salvation with others.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are above all, and your words bring life. Help us to trust in your testimony and to live according to your truth. Strengthen our faith and guide us to share your love with the world. Amen.
